The "Tip of the Day" dialog box is normally displayed when you start the application. You can change this behavior using the check box below. If you turn the "Tip of the Day" off and later want to see the tips, choose "Tip of the Day" from Help menu, then check on the check box at the bottom of the dialog.
You can invoke Help file by pressing F1.
You can connect to the server by pressing F5.
You can select combo box displaying list of object types (Tables, Procedures, Functions, Views, Triggers, Relationships) by pressing F6. Then, press Arrow Up or Arrow Down key to select desired object type.
You can compare selected procedures by pressing F7.
You can invoke 'Compare All' dialog by pressing F8. This dialog presents list of objects to be compared (Tables, Procedures, Functions, Views, Triggers, Relationships). After making your selection just press button Compare - it will start comparison process, which will result in displaying detailed comparison report.
You can compare data stored in selected tables by pressing F9.
You can get detailed database information by pressing F10 (for database displayed in left panel) or F11 (for database displayed in right panel).
You can compare databases stored in different servers. To do so just add appropriate servers by invoking 'Add Server' dialog and entering server data. Dialog 'Add Server' can be invoked by clicking menu item 'Tools' -> 'Add Server'.
You can close a dialog box by pressing Esc.
You can close the application by pressing Alt + F4.
Sometimes due to delays from network traffic or heavy server use, server is not as responsive as usual; increasing timeout can prevent application from terminating the attempt. To change the value of timeout, select menu item Tools -> Timeout and enter new value into displayed form.
SQL Server Comparison Tool has easy to use, optionally mouseless interface - anything you can do with mouse, you can do also by using just keyboard. To change active control, press Tab. For list of shortcuts and hot keys, see Help file.
You can create your own "Tips of the Day". To do so edit file TipOfDay.txt, which is located in the same folder as SQL Server Comparison Tool executable file (sct.exe), and add your own tips.
